Summer Shenanigans

Every summer is different. Obviously each year my kids are older, they have different ideas of what is fun and what is not. I try to be the "fun" mom but fun mom can be expensive. 😂Especially with 4 kids.

We don't leave the house every day, cause sometimes just thinking about getting in the van makes me want to curl up into a ball and hide forever. It's so hot. BUT I still do try to let my kids experience new things along with the same ol' summer stuff.

Obviously #1 summer activity is anything that involves water. Swimming, splash pads, backyard sprinkler, whatever has water we try and do.

#2 anything inside.

Like a said if we can avoid not leaving the house we don't and if we do its to a water hole or somewhere else inside.

I surprised the kids and took them to a super fun indoor play park. Slides, trampolines, rock walls, etc. I was a little worried about Leonard, only being 2 how he would do. He was freaking out when we got there and didn't want to wear the grippy socks but when our hour play time was up he was freaking out cause he didn't want to leave. Totally worth the trip and the expense!

We're planning on taking the kids again, and trying out a couple of the other indoor places we have in the valley.

#3 Everything else😉 card games, video games, Lego building, movies, sending my kids to friends houses, and having friends over.

One great thing about older kids is they have friends that invite them over, and want to come over. It doesn't happen all the time, but its a nice change for everyone.

With only a couple week left of summer break, 3 out of 4 kids are in school this year and it starts July 18th, we are making the best of spending time together.

When your toddler doesn't want to nap anymore

When Leonard was born I already knew then that this kid would be something else, and oh boy is he ever.

Perfectly placed in the line up of kids, the caboose, thank goodness. Just over 2 years with this little engine that never quits. He has recently graduated to a big bed, which was the tragic end of consistent naps. This stage I dread the most in motherhood, but I guess good news is this is the last time I will be going through this phase.

Precious naps are few and far between now, but they happen usually on days when he decides to wake up between 3-5AM. He's not one to sleep in, unless we have somewhere to be in the morning and since its summer no sleeping in. I would blame the sun but I'm pretty sure he gets up before it peak through his window.

I cherish the times when he sits on the couch and is quiet for longer than I'm used to, and he's fallen asleep. Everyone in the house needs to immediately not talk, not move a muscle, and even breathe quieter. We just let the tired boy sleep, and so I can remind myself that he is a precious little angel, before he wakes up again.

Sometimes the only solution is to CHOP!

When life gives you thin hair, you make the best of it.

I've come to the realization that my hair will never be the same as it was before children. I've finally excepted my fate. Even after all the hair loss, and regrowth it is what it is.
Sometimes the only solution is to CHOP! | Everyday Airkaka

After a few hair cuts and keeping my hair shoulder length, I realized even with it that length I was still putting my hair up every single day. I never had my hair down. If you have thin hair you know that having your hair pulled back into a bun or pony tail is basically the worst thing you can do. Every time I took down my hair my elastic would pull out tons of my hair. YIKES! I couldn't afford any more hair being lost to keep it up.

So one day a few weeks ago, I texted my talented and amazing friend

I'm that client and sent her a photo I had found on Pinterest of a super short cut that I wanted, but I'm also that client that doesn't expect it to look identical.

She worked her magic and figured out what would work best for my hair and still keeping the image I sent in mind.

I feels so good to have my hair short again. It is a perfect cut for my thin hair, I don't know why I keep growing it out. I'll be keeping it short for a long long time. It actually feels thicker and fuller, because its not being weighed down.

Sometimes when you have thin hair the only solution is to chop it!

You can outgrow a catchy name but you can't outgrow yourself

For about 2 years now I've been wanting to change the name of my blog from Good Job Momma to something else.

I've toyed around with using my Instagram name Airkaka as a name for a new blog name, but fear of changing it was holding me back.

Which is stupid.

A thought came to me the other day and I knew I HAD to make the blog name change.
"hey Erica, you can outgrow a catchy name but you can't outgrow yourself"
Mind blown.

When I started blogging it was just a simple family blog that I used to update family and a journal for myself of what was going on in my life. Then a few years into it I thought I need to change the name, so I created Good Job Momma, at the time I had 2 kids and basically no identity.  What I mean by that is, I was so wrapped up in just being a mom that I didn't know how to do anything else. I had no hobbies, I didn't spend much time outside the home, and I was totally engulfed in my two little ones at that time and the blog idea made sense.

I had big plans for the name.  Great ideas to execute on the blog, but did most of those happen? no.

I was starting to feel trapped in the name. Silly, but when you go to a blog called Good Job Momma what do you expect? amazing mom content.  I just wasn't happy with it.  I am more than a mom, and I have so much to share that doesn't have to just do with being a mom, and I felt a major shift within my blog prior to this name change. I've been discovering who I am for many years now, and It was time to look to the future.

Why Everyday Airkaka?

Well airkaka is my silly instagram name.  I had admired instagram for a long time and I remember the day it was compatable with andorid phones.  I immediately downloaded the app and signed up. The all important line stared back at me, username. I went through a lot of different options in my head before settling on Airka, which a friend of mine wrote my name like that one time in high school and i always thought it was clever, then I thought well i'll had a second 'ka' to the end just for good measure and Airkaka was born April 3, 2011.

I've grown so much using that name through instagram it felt just plain weird and off to have a blog name that didn't associate with it at all. I was trying to grow to many different places when I was really wanting to grow more in one and have it branch to the others.

I've been learning more about branding and things with Alison's Brand School, and it made sense, and I wanted to make sense, so long story short, I am now Everyday Airkaka.

I get to still be the name I've created and built on my Instagram platform and I get to be that everywhere else now. One cohesive happy little family.

I'm excited for the changes and for finally feeling like I can just be who I am however it may go. I can't outgrow myself and there is so much more potential for growth now!

1200 Minute Summer Movement Challenge

To give myself some account ability this summer and stay active, i'm starting a summer movement challenge.

The 1200 minute summer movement challenge is to be active 1200 minutes during the months of June & July. This breaks down to about 20 minutes per day. 20 minutes is something that I can easily accomplish even with my kids up during the day or do at night before bed.

I've been learning more and more about intuitive eating and listening to what my body needs and it's craving movement.

I'm not looking for a physical transformation, I know that I need this mentally to breeze through summer with a healthy mind, and movement helps me more than anything else.

I've created a spreadsheet to keep my accountable and you can download one for yourself, if you'd like to join me HERE. At the end of summer see if you hit it or exceeded it!

Being active doesn't have to be a big ordeal, but its a conscience decision you will make every day. I think that's the most important thing in this challenge, is making the choice.
  • swim
  • bike
  • walk
  • lift weights
  • workout videos
  • yoga
  • garden
  • dance
  • skip
  • run
Whatever you're heart and body wants. Just get up and move your body.

Will you join me in my 1200 minute summer movement challenge?

If you want to join download and print your own movement spreadsheet, use the hashtag #1200summermovementchallenge on social media! Follow me during this challenge on my Instagram | AIRKAKA

If you have any issues getting the spreadsheet let me know!!! Thanks friends!

Essential Rewards

Okay, so next thing I want to go over while I have you here is Essential Rewards. In the oily world if you hear or see someone taking about a "monthly ER order" this is what it means.

I was slightly confused about it when signing up and wasn't really sure what it was or what it would do to my final total when getting my PSK. It just sounded amazing from a newbie perspective.

Premium Starter Kit from Young Living | The Breakdown

You can sign up for the monthly ordering program at the same time you grab your PSK.
Here are some things you should know if you are choosing to sign up.

  • You pay at the end of check out for the items you add to your monthly order. Whether you customize your ER or click to add one of the other two ER options, if you click a box that says "Yes, add ER to my order"(or something very close to that) when you go to check out that will be added to your final total.
    PSK(160) + ER = Total.
    My order was [160(PSK)+ 50.75(ER)+tax/shipping=230.82]
I know that seems like a ton up front but lets be honest how many times have we blinked in Target and walked out spending close to that of things we don't really need? 😂
  • If you customize your ER order you must add enough products to be at least 50PV. Each product has a PV (personal volume) number associated with it, which most the time is directly associated with the dollar amount. My customized ER order with my PSK, I got Lime, Lemon, Orange & Purification essential oils. Which totaled $50.75 which was 50PV.
  • You can make quick orders anytime during the month but what makes ER so special is that when you purchase through your ER monthly order, you get points back! With my PSK & ER order I received 10% of the total available points (some items do not have PV) back.
    Month 1-3: 10%
    Month 4-24: 20%
    Month 24+: 25%
You can then use these point to get products! WIN WIN!
  • To receive points back on your ER order you need to spend that magic number of 50PV per month. You can customize your order all month long until the processing date, which you can change if needed too. You can also cancel anytime or start ER any time. If you want to cancel and you have points use them up before hand otherwise you'll lose them!
So that's the breakdown when you sign up for a Premium Starter Kit from Young Living and about Essential Rewards. I know its a lot of info, but I hope this has helped you!

There are so many benefits to grabbing a starter kit and becoming a member. They have monthly promos which equals more free products, just by ordering, using and loving YL!

The one thing thing that came in the kit that actually got me hooked on continuing to use Young Living products wasn't even an essential oil! It was the thieves cleaner sample! I had heard about this cleaner and was skeptical. I used the 16oz of cleaner I made for 1 month, and it literally changed my view on clean!

The first thing I think to grab when there is a mess or spill, is my thieves cleaner. I was worried about using it with my laminate wood flooring, but it has been amazing.  I have 4 cats and other products would do a good job but that "clean smell" would disappear in a matter of hours. Now, with thieves I'll walk into my home a day later and still smell it and not my cats! Even my very skeptical husband has made comments about how impressed he is with it!

If you have any questions or want to snag a Premium Starter Kit for yourself let me know! You can always click THIS LINK  fill out your info just to see what the cost for you would be with the kit & products you choose in your ER order.
